Frequent
Questions
Do I need to purchase tickets in advance for your tours?
No, we do not require advance reservations for any of our tours, including
our tours of the month and holiday specials. Just show up at the site
a few minutes ahead of tour time and pay your guide there. Exact change
is not necessary, but it is very much appreciated.
Do you have tours for children?
We offer one regular children's tour during our May through October season. Boston By Little Feet is for children ages 6-12. This
one-hour tour shows sites on the downtown Boston portion of the Freedom
Trail. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and the cost of the tour
is $8 for all participants. We also offer several other children's tours for private groups. Bells, Bridges, and Locks is an exploratory tour of the Charles River Basin for children ages 6-12. Johnny Tremain is a tour of the North End based on the Esther Forbes' prize-winning novel Johnny Tremain and is suitable for children ages 11-13 who have read the book. Consult our Group Tours page for more details.
Do you offer any discounts on your tours?
We have a Boston By Foot membership, which entitles you to free admission
on regular tours and reduced admission on special tours. Either ask your
guide for a tour brochure or call the office (617-367-2345) for membership
information. You may join as a member at the start of any tour. We also
offer discounted tours to school groups over ten people.
How can I become a Boston By Foot guide?
We love this question! Each spring we offer a training course which is
given on six Saturdays beginning in mid-April. We now have more than 200
volunteer guides who commit to a minimum of six tours during the May-October
season. For more information or to receive a course flyer (printed in
mid-January), please call (617-367-2345) or e-mail (bbfoot@bostonbyfoot)
the office with your name and mailing address, and you will be on our
guide in training mailing list.
